The Partners wish to commission three professional lead artists, one from each of the participating countries, UK, Ireland and Spain / Catalonia respectively, to create a TEMPORARY outdoor artwork concept which can then be realised in each participating Partner region, creating nine new site-specific contemporary visual / digital artworks in total (three in each per participating Partner region, 1 by each artist) to be installed in the spring / summer 2014. Selected artists will be of a national / international calibre and are required to produce an original concept for their proposed artwork. The original project concept outlined in the EU Culture Programme submission stated that the project and commissions would: ‘explore the shared economic and cultural heritage themes in relation to former railway lines, from their original purpose and revolutionary impact on Europe’s natural and economic landscape and its citizens, to their current form, function and association with domestic tourism and healthy lifestyles.’ The Partners intend that the proposed artworks will be installed on identified former railway lines in each participating region which are today used primarily as visitor destinations for both walking and cycling.
